Culinary Art / Pastry Making Training Programme at the Chania Detention Facility

DYPA recently implemented a specialized vocational training programme on Culinary Art / Pastry Making at the Chania Detention Facility.

A certificate award event was held on Wednesday 17 May 2023 at the Chania Detention Facility, following the completion of DYPA’s vocational training programme on Culinary Art / Pastry Making.

Thirty inmates attended the specialized training programme (total duration: 350 hours), which was implemented by DYPA’s Renti Vocational Training Centre as part of a collaboration with the General Directorate of Anticrime and Correctional Policy of the Greek Ministry of Citizen Protection.

The training programme was aimed at enhancing the participating inmates’ skills and employability, so that they could be effectively re-integrated into the labour market and society at large, after their release. Upon completion of the training, the programme beneficiaries will be able to adequately perform the necessary steps to prepare dishes and pastries in restaurants and pastry shops, appropriately utilize the kitchen equipment available to them, ensure that the necessary safety and hygiene rules are observed in their workplace and, more generally, approach job searching in a positive way after their release.

The event was held in the presence of DYPA’s General Director of VET, Α. Theodoridou, the Head of DYPA’s Directorate of Vocational Training, Ε. Laina, and the Director of DYPA’s Renti Vocational Training Centre (ΚΕΚ), S. Bouzouki.

It has been a key priority for DYPA to design and implement innovative vocational training programmes for Detention Facility inmates with a view to enhancing their knowledge and skills in highly demanded occupational sectors and effectively supporting them in making a new start.
